Adoption and Drop Off Procedures

For adoption or surrender we try to do a thorough telephone interview first.

Adopting a Shelter Ferret!
If you are interested in adopting we have you stop in to see the available ferrets. You can handle and play with them and see whom you get along with. We require you to come in twice. First, to be sure there are no snap decisions. Second, to be sure you know what you’re getting into. We want you to learn as much as you can about ferrets before they are brought into your home. If you have ferrets at home, and you have not adopted from us before, you are required to bring your ferrets in.

Is it really necessary for you to give up your ferret?
Please give this some honest thought. If it is a behavior problem maybe we can help. If the reason is no time, consider how much time you think a shelter can give each individual animal. Is your ferret sick or older? This is when they need you the most! Moving or having a baby? We have members who have accomplished both without having to discard their ferrets. If you have just plain lost interest, try getting involved with a ferret club or shelter. Meet others who think these fuzzies are great. Maybe your interest can be rekindled. At least give it one more try.

Surrendering Your Ferret!
If you find it necessary to surrender your ferret, we try to get as much information as possible about the ferret. This will make the transition easier for your pet.

When a ferret is turned in we expect you to bring the food your ferret is eating and any medical records that you may have. A date and time will be set for you to bring your ferret to the shelter, with all of his belongings, cage, sleep sacks, water bottles, food dishes, any toys etc. We would also like a short paper on their habits quirks, and any schedule they were on.
