Adoptable Ferrets

Name: Teddy Bear
Sex: Female
Color: Chocolate
Date of Birth: 12/02/07

Teddy bear came to the shelter from Animal Control. We had to wait for her, she had been on a safe hold, so if the owner wanted her back they had time to claim her (of course they didn’t). Teddy bear is easy going and friendly. She plays out with a large group and will probably be paired with someone in that group. Her coat was dingy and for the first week she slept under her bed. Teddy Bear got a buff and fluff (bath) and has definitely improved her appetite.

Coco came from Lakeland Animal Shelter so we do not have a bundle of information on her. Except she is cute, friendly and now paired up with Dolly. They look very much alike and sometimes people cannot tell them apart.

These girls came in with Jitterbug but are a little older and gentler. Winter is good size for a female. Twinkle had surgery due to a very peculiar, patchy coat. Her left adrenal was removed and she is on the mend. Twinkle seemed to have had quite a problem with the anesthesia, yet she is improving everyday.

Jitterbug came to us with other ferrets from someone who just wanted to find a safe place for them. Their owner had been placed in hospice care and there was no way the person turning them in could keep them. Jitterbug is a very playful nice size boy who is fairly high strung. If you are wearing sweats he will climb right up your pants leg. Jitterbug plays out in a group of eight and seems to have no problems.

Karma was turned in by a couple who said their friend had purchased her and then she moved to Illinois. Her owner said she was coming back for her but over a month later this couple still had Karma and wanted her gone so she was picked up and brought into the shelter. Karma is a very pretty little girl but also sassy. Her two bad habits are digging out her food and biting your shoes.

Rosie is a little dickens who likes to stir things up and then run away. Update: Rosie was having a bad coat change but now she is very solid and gorgeous. Still a little troublemaker though.

These two are very sweet playful little girls. They came to the shelter because their owner had serious medical problems and could not care for them any longer. The girls are in terrific shape for their age and they play in a large group. Ditto is a shoe biter, Kassie a cuddler.

Dolly is classy and quite mild. She has a beautiful fluffy coat and loves playing in the tubes. On certain days Dolly even likes to be cuddled.

Another guy who likes to climb, jump and play hard. He gets along with others okay. Joker loves attention and will constantly be jumping on you to be picked up.

Meguire is a friendly, cute fellow. He loves to play and gets along with other ferrets and is genuinely a well-rounded ferret. Meguire is caged with Joker. They would make a great pair.

Pepsi is very active, more of little busybody who has her nose in everything and likes to see what she can get going.

Before surgery she wss pretty bald but Taco went in for adrenal surgery and her hair is growing back. She is very active but tries to pick on everyone else. I’m hoping this will subside with time. Update: Taco is now a pretty champagne, she looks like a baby with new hair and plays out in a group of eight.

Sassy, young, energetic boys were turned in by two young men who had no idea what ferrets were like. It seems they wouldn’t   potty train and they were finding messes all over. The boys are adorable but need to learn some manners.

A family who really didn’t know a great deal about ferrets turned in this pair. Jersey and Feather were extremely underweight. It seems they changed their food entirely without mixing old and new. What happened was they almost stopped eating totally. We are working hard to put weight back on them.

Keno is a cuddly, handsome ferret, very clean in his cage. We have not tried him with others yet so we don’t know if he will mix with a group or not. Keno seems to be oblivious to what happening around him. He does play with Sandie pretty well.

Sandie was left in an apartment when her owner moved.  She is a busy playful little girl. Sandie gets along fine with most other ferrets. She has been playing out quite a bit with Keno.

Sherbet is a darling who will win your affection in a heartbeat. She loves to play and chase. Sherbets nose and jaw are slightly out of line. We don’t know if it is from a birth defect or abuse. Sometimes Sherbet sounds like she is congested. This is not the problem. The funny noise from her is due to her facial structure.
