The girls, who are litter mates, were given to The Ferret Den because they were unaltered. Faith and Hope are sweet, friendly and very playful. Soon they will be making a trip to the vet to be fixed.

These three older fellows are all big boys who were brought into the shelter by their owners. The reason stated was economic hardship. The ferrets are very nice and friendly. The boys do well with the litter box and love playing out.

Harley and Chloe were brought in because their owners did not have the time to care for them any longer. They are cute and friendly. We were told they are very good with children. They were out to a home for almost a year and then returned because the couple that took them was moving out of state. The couple was going to a one-bedroom apartment and they already had two big dogs, which the ferrets got along with. Sadly it was Chloe and Harley who were left behind.

Ringo came in with another ferret. They did not fit well at all . Ringo is quite skittish and is not thrilled at all about being held. We think his previous owner just let him out to play and never really interacted with him. At this time he is sharing a cage with Sherlock but he could be placed as a single or friend for another ferret.

Max was brought to the shelter one evening past shelter hours. His owner had just moved. The landlord saw the ferret and told them it had to go immediately. They called us and naturally we said bring him in. Max is quiet in your arms and crazy when on the floor playing.

The boys are around three years old and seem sweet and friendly. Boris is definitely easy going, you can be vacuuming and he will walk right by you, pick up a piece of kibble and chow down. Ollie the DEW is a busy boy and a little more skiddish.

We were told these two boys were found as strays. Funny how they both stayed together and managed to bring their cage with them. Taser and Expresso are friendly and very playful. They are not nippy at all. They are also pretty good jumpers, watching them it looks like they are on pogo sticks. They play out in a group but Taser has to be monitored. He gets to wild and then becomes aggressive.

Sterling and Kenji arrived at the shelter with two other ferrets and the four were split. These big boys are well behaved playful and people friendly. They seem to play well with other ferrets and do good in the play area litter boxes when you put them in as they first come out.

Drifter came to us from Countryside Humane Society as a stray. At this time he is very bald and has urine scars on his groin area. He will be going in soon for adrenal surgery. Drifter has good body weight and seems active. We hope things go well for him. Drifter is a sweetheart and deserves to find a loving home.

Toni and Thomas were turned in by someone who just didn’t have the time to care for them any longer. The sad part is she took them from someone else who was not taking care of them. She didn’t do much better. We don’t know how they were fed but for the first 3 days they would completely empty their food dish.

They arrived in poor shape and very hungry. Their nails were extremely long, they both need dentals and have broken teeth and Cinder is adrenal and going in for surgery the end of November. Cinder and Patti are a sweet pair and deserve much better than what they must have had.

They are both dark-eyed-whites. They are fluffy, beautiful and friendly. Sergio and Dundee are neat in their cage and very busy when out to play. They boys were placed in the shelter due to a divorce and move.

Kermit(top) came from Countryside Humane Society. He is fairly laid back yet still nice and playful. Kermit has been paired up with a little silver female named Boots, D.O.B. 1/24/09. Boots is definitely very active but neither are nippy or sassy just busy.

Sherlock is a very hyper ferret. He loves to be out and chase. Sherlock also has a bad habit of digging his food out all over. He is people friendly and not nippy at all. Sherlock will come over and sit up to beg for a treat. Sherlock at this time is sharing a cage with Ringo but could be adopted out as a single if he gets enough attention.

Calico is a beautiful girl with soft, silky hair. She plays out with a group. She is very busy and at times still a little nippy. Calico was removed from a boarded up house, which explains the nippy part. Calico deserves a second chance and a new home.

Witney came in to the shelter because her owner had lost her place to live. Her coat is not good but this could be because of the food she was eating and the gravel litter she were in. She will do well with other ferrets. At this time she is caged together with Sherlock but in the future she may find a new friend and they could be split.

Diva is a very pretty girl and has a beautiful coat but is way too light in the weight department. We are trying to slowly switch her food (which is taking longer than we thought) to a better quality. What she had been eating was pure junk. Diva was turned in by someone who really should never have had ferrets. Good intentions do not always have good results.

September’s owner was moving and gave her to a friend who wanted her. Then her friend turned her in to MADAC because she got more ferrets and September did not get along with them. She is a sweet girl who at one time had a partner who passed away. September will probably remain a single, which is too bad. September is also deaf.

Someone who thought he would be a great little companion adopted Mickey from the Den eight months ago. Only Mickey was too wild and naughty and his new owner could not put in the time needed to make him a fun pet. Mickey was very thin and in poor shape when he arrived. We are trying to improve both his body and his temperament.

The boys were turned into a Humane Society by a person who said they were found running lose. Jet and Irish are very, very good eaters. They are in good shape but need exercise. Jet and Irish play out in a large group and  get along well. Jet, being fairly young, surprisingly likes to be held.

Frosty is a cute little ferret, very solid and playful. She is quite a jumper. Frosty mouths in play but does not bite (unless you are trying to check her teeth).

Fritzers is another ferret that someone just left because they didn’t want him anymore. When he first arrived he was very shy and scared. He has really come out of his shell and is now bouncy and curious. Fritzers gets along good with Molly. We have not tried him with any other ferrets yet.

Remmy’s start in life must have been horrible. He was brought in to animal control because his owner was being charged with animal cruelty. Remmy was really thin and weak. The crew at MADAC did a good job of fattening him up.

Shelly came from Countryside HS. She had a sore (hole in her neck), which turned out to be a cuterebra. A larva, which was still alive and removed by Dr. Menjtis from West Allis Animal Hospital. Poor Shelly had her hair scratched off her neck from it bothering her. She seems to be doing much better with that taken care of and new hair is already growing back in. Shelly is also on a low dose of Prednisone .25cc twice a day.

Times New Roman Little Cookie wandered into a lady’s backyard. Luckily the woman called her and Cookie ran right over to her. She gave us a call and brought her into the shelter. Cookie is people friendly but still standoffish with other ferrets.

We picked Carmen up from Countryside Humane Society. She was turned into them as a stray. Carmen is very pretty but could put on a little weight. She seems gentle yet Carmen is still pretty skiddish. We are hoping she relaxes after a few weeks here at the shelter.

These two were originally on Craig’s List, purchased, kept for a very short time and turned in to the shelter. They were adopted quickly but returned after 3 months due to the couple splitting up. Penny and Richie are both sweet and they play well out with a large group.

Two reasons the owner brought these ferrets into the shelter. First, they had moved and there was no space in the house to keep them. So they were staying in the garage. Second, soon they would be moving out of state and could not take them. They have been together from the start and make a cute pair but Tina seems to be tilting to the right when she walks so she will be in to see our vet as soon as possible.

A gal who had taken them from a friend because he was going in the service brought in knuckles and Duchess. She and her husband had moved to Wisconsin but their place was too small to keep them. Knuckles and Duchess were only in their care for about two months. The ferrets are very active when out and sometimes play to rough. Duchess is a little nippy when wound up.

Ramses was owned by a young man who turned him over to his folks. The parents like him but the dad was very, very allergic, so mom brought him in. Ramses is very playful and seems to love people. He has a cyst on his neck which we will be having removed. Ramses also has a ring mark on his fur, which should disappear in time.

These fellows have had a pretty lousy life, before they got to the shelter. Their owner who had been saying one was sick and she couldn’t afford them brought them to the shelter. They weren’t sick the ferrets were being starved. They couldn’t even stand to make it to the litter box. In two weeks time the boys had doubled their weight. They are getting better everyday and love to play. We want to be sure this never happens to them again.

Boo came to us when his owner was told to remove his animals from the home he was residing in. His former owner had expressed a hope to reclaim him once he moved out but it has been over a month and he has not bothered to return our numerous calls. Their owner brought in these two ferrets. She was moving and the landlord had said okay. But, the other renters sharing common areas complained so Daphney and Arizona came to the shelter. They are friendly, neat in their cage and so far use the litter box when out playing. The only bad thing is they were kept in cedar chips for a time and their coats are stained yellow. This will take care of itself in time.

Kruse was turned into animal control by a woman who said she found him, he really was hers. As soon as he arrived at the shelter he was taken in for adrenal surgery and a huge hairball was removed. Kruse is sweet and will follow you around and jump on your leg until you pick him up.

Tyke has been in and out of the shelter system several times. A very sad situation for him. He is a good little fellow. His last owner wanted desperately to keep him but couldn’t. She was moving in with a very sick relative to do home care for her and Tyke was not allowed.

Frost was brought into the shelter because he would not potty train. He seems to do fine here. Frost plays well. He and Autumn are just a riot to watch tussling.

Autumn was brought into the shelter after she was found in this woman’s yard. She had been digging in little gopher holes. Autumn had a couple of ticks on her, which we removed with a flea and tick bath. The woman had kept her for only two days and realized she didn’t know enough about ferrets to keep her.

Two very sweet, little girls surrendered to the shelter because their owner became allergic. They had Saffron and when Snowball was added to the household it became too much. The girls are messy in their cage and dig their food out before they eat it.

Zoie and Bandit were dumped by someone who just didn’t want anything to do with them anymore. Zoie has a cyst on her side, which we are hoping can be easily removed and Bandit is going to receive a melatinc implant and lupron shot or go in for adrenal surgery. They both love people and want and need lots of attention. They also seem to get along with other ferrets.

Wesley and Drake were brought to the shelter late one evening. Their owner had lost his job and place of residence. The ferrets were staying in a carrier in his car and he knew this was not good for them. The ferrets seem friendly and well behaved. Their owner seemed to really care for them but had no choice but to surrender them.

These two little girls are simply adorable. They are very friendly, have beautiful coats and love to chase and play. Their owner turned them in to the shelter saying they were moving and they could not have the ferrets in their new place.

Creampuff is big for a girl. She was found outside and she was full of ticks. Creampuff had a flea and tick bath and is being treated with frontline. She is also on antibiotics to ward off any infection. At present she seems cuddly but this could be only temporary.

Mandy is an adorable, very playful oldster. Her owner who had her since she was a baby brought Mandy to the shelter. He stated right out, no one wanted to care for her anymore. Mandy hops and jumps around like a two year old. She is probably thrilled to be let out of her cage.

Angel was picked up from a home where her owner had been placed in the hospital. Angel’s fur was pretty matted and some mats had to be cut out. She is doing well, friendly and good with the litter box.

These two ferrets were picked up from a home by one of our shelter volunteers. The owners turned them in because they couldn’t afford them anymore. The people also had other animals but did not really know how to care for ferrets. The home conditions were not good, the ferrets needed to be removed. Both Rio and Treasure are very friendly and playful and seem to get along well with others.

The girls are very busy and playful. They are also very good with the litter box. Only Jewel has a bad habit. She loves to chew on shoes, even with you in them.

She is a tiny curious ferret. When Mitzi first arrived she seemed very afraid when you would reach for her, so we opened her cage and let her come to us. When she is out playing she will run over to us. Mitzi is also quite a little chatterbox and on the plus side she is very neat in her cage.

Thistle also came to us from Milwaukee Animal Control. He had been found in Lake Park. Thistle gets along with other ferrets if they are not to rough with him. Thistle seems calm and even-tempered and is also a very neat boy in his cage.

These two fuzzies arrived at the shelter through some strange circumstances. A girl who had been asked to board them for a day or two brought Bandit and Sassy in. When the lady arrived at her house to board she asked if this girl would like to keep them. Well she did for three or four days and then decided ferrets were not her kind of pet. So she called and asked if she could bring them into the shelter. Of course we said yes.

A young guy (who said his friend just dropped him off at his house) brought Scruffy in. Scruffy was adrenal and not in great shape. The Den had the surgery done but his recovery has been slow. Scruffy seems lost and has not learned yet how to interact well with humans. Scruffy seems shy and scared and he will need lots of love and care.

The same person owned Lenny all his life. Now his owner is pregnant and lives in a small apartment so she had her husband bring him in. We were told he had a cagemate who passed away a year ago. Lenny seemed in a daze at first. He is much better now and rumbles around like a little old man.

A lady feeding the animals in Grant Park found Annie outside there, the day after Christmas. Annie was then taken to Milwaukee Animal Control, held for the correct amount of time and the released to The Ferret Den. Annie has a bad coat at this time and she is very hesitant. We’re sure this will change once she realizes she will always have food and be safe.

Buster is a stocky, little, old guy. He is sweet and likes to be held. Buster also loves Ferretvite and Ferretone. He came in with a very bad dental problem. Buster is scheduled to a have this taken care of on March 30th. We also suspect he may be adrenal so exploratory surgery will also be done at this time.

Tommy and Polar were turned into the shelter for the standard reason of many “No Time”. The boys look well cared for but Tommy can definitely use some more exercise. We do not know if they play well will others or not yet. We were told they used to play with their cat.

This ferret came to us quite adrenal. We sent him in for surgery and he is doing terrific. What a change in attitude. He is a playful busy little guy and very inquisitive.

Quizno came to us from M.A.D.A.C. They had given him a bath because he was so yellow. Nothing washed out so Quizno’s coloring is going to stay this way unless it was the food he was eating or what he was kept in. Only time will tell. Quizno is wild and playful. He does the weasel war dance so jubilantly he knocks himself into things. Quizno is one happy fellow.

Daisy was brought to the shelter by a couple that said they just didn’t have time for her anymore. This couple had gotten Daisy from a friend. At one time she had been with other ferrets. Daisy is very playful and friendly. She does not bite and is neat in her cage. The only downside seems to be she was eating garbage food and we hope to get her switched to something better.

He is a very handsome fellow. He seems to get along with everyone. He was turned into Animal Control and after his quarantine time was up Kiowa was released to the Den. Kiowa rooms with Murphy and they play well together.

These two handsome boys were picked up and brought in to the shelter for the simple reason they were not using the litter box in their cage. The guys have not missed since their arrival. Alfredo and Parmesan are friendly, alert and very playful. The boys play out in a group of nine. If we did not have so many ferrets of our own they would have been adopted the day after their arrival and upstairs with us.

Three more turned in together. Two were gotten from H.A.W.S. and one at a pet store. At this time, Ace and Sage are together and Lillith is separate, recovering from major adrenal surgery. They are all well mannered and playful.
